Have you ever gotten stuck in the loop?

Should I stay or should I go?
Should I buy this or that?
Should I take the job?
Should I move?
Should I speak up?

You go back and forth.
You make pros and cons lists.
You ask everyone you trust for their opinion.

And still… you’re stuck.

A lot of people struggle with decisions when:

  • They don’t feel like they have all the information.

  • The outcome feels permanent.

  • The choice is emotional.

  • They’re afraid of getting it “wrong.”

But here’s the part we often miss:

Most decisions aren’t actually about the options.

They’re about alignment.

The Real Question Behind the Decision

When someone says:

“Should I live in the city or move to the suburbs?”

That may not be the real decision.

The deeper question might be:

Do I value energy and stimulation?
Or do I value peace and space?

When someone says:

“Should I stay in this job or leave?”

The deeper question might be:

Do I value security more right now?
Or growth?

Even something simple like:

“Should I live in the city?”

Might really mean:

Do I want city life?
Or do I just want to be able to walk to a coffee shop?

Very different values. Very different drivers.

Decisions Become Clearer When Values Are Clear

If you don’t know what you value most in this season of your life, every option feels equally weighted.

When you get clear on:

  • What matters most right now

  • What kind of energy you want in your life

  • What you are optimizing for (comfort? adventure? income? flexibility? impact?)

The decision doesn’t always become easy.

But it becomes clearer.

It’s Not About Perfect Information

We often tell ourselves:

“I just need more information.”

Sometimes that’s true.

But often what we’re really saying is:

“I’m afraid to trust myself.”

You will rarely have 100% certainty.

What you can have is self-awareness.

When you understand your values and how each option aligns with them, you stop trying to predict the future — and start making a choice that fits who you are.

A Coaching Question for You

Instead of asking:

“What’s the right choice?”

Try asking:

“Which option aligns most with who I want to be?”

Notice what shifts.
