For years, I told myself a simple story:
“I’m not creative.”

It sounded harmless. Practical, even.
I had a serious career. Leadership responsibilities. Deadlines. Budgets. Data. Creativity felt… optional. Maybe even indulgent.

But recently, I caught something.

The real issue wasn’t a lack of creativity.
It was fear.

Fear of being judged.
Fear of not being good enough.
Fear of putting something out into the world and having it fall flat.

When I really sat with that, I found myself thinking about the little girl I used to be.

She was always drawing.
Coloring for hours.
Making jewelry and friendship bracelets.
Arts and crafts were her favorite subject.
She wrote poetry just because she loved how words felt on paper.

No one had to tell her she was creative. She just was.

Somewhere along the way, I stopped.

Not all at once. Gradually. Quietly.

I avoided anything that required vulnerability by telling myself, “That’s just not who I am.”
I said it so often that eventually I believed it.
I convinced myself not to try.

Coaching helped me see something different.

It helped me notice the stories I was telling myself — stories that felt true but weren’t necessarily facts. It gave me the courage to question them.

What if I am creative?
What if I’ve just been protecting myself?

Reclaiming that part of myself hasn’t looked like quitting my job and becoming an artist. It’s looked like something smaller — and braver.

Writing.
Sharing.
Starting a business.
Putting my thoughts into the world anyway.

Creativity isn’t just painting or poetry.
It’s problem-solving.
It’s connection.
It’s building something new.
It’s expressing what’s inside you instead of hiding it.

And sometimes, it’s simply remembering who you were before you got scared.

If you’ve been telling yourself a story about who you are — or aren’t — I invite you to pause and ask:

Is that a fact?
Or is it protection?

You might just rediscover something you thought you lost.

Sometimes growth starts with a single question. If you’re curious about what belief might be shaping your life right now, I invite you to book a complimentary discovery session.
