Starting anything new is hard.

Whether you’re launching a business, changing careers, learning a new skill, or stepping outside your comfort zone, growth requires two things we often struggle to give ourselves: time and patience.

I’ve been coaching several new entrepreneurs who are just beginning their journeys. Surprisingly, the biggest challenge isn’t creating a business plan or building a website. It’s patience.

We live in a world that celebrates overnight success, so we expect our dreams to be fully formed almost immediately. We want the polished website, the thriving social media presence, the steady stream of clients, and the confidence that comes with experience. When those things don’t happen as quickly as we’d hoped, disappointment creeps in.

But what if we’re measuring the wrong thing?

What if success isn’t just the destination? What if it’s found in the process of becoming?

The early days of building something new offer opportunities that disappear once you’ve “arrived.”

You have the opportunity to be intentional with every decision instead of rushing to keep up.

You have the opportunity to learn from people who have walked the path before you.

You have the opportunity to experiment, make mistakes, and discover what truly aligns with who you are.

You have the opportunity to grow at a pace that prevents burnout instead of creating it.

A slow start isn’t necessarily a sign that you’re failing. Sometimes it’s exactly what allows you to build a stronger foundation.

Instead of asking, “Why am I not there yet?” maybe we could ask, “What am I learning today?”

Because one day you’ll look back and realize these uncertain, messy, exciting first steps weren’t standing in the way of your journey.

They were the journey.

So wherever you are today, whether you’re building a business, pursuing a dream, or simply trying something new, give yourself permission to enjoy the ride.

After all, if we’re always racing toward the finish line, we might miss the very experiences that make the destination worthwhile.
